Wellness & Vaccinations

We’ve seen it time and time again. Many otherwise responsible pet owners making the mistake of thinking that their animal companions don’t need to see the vet unless they’re sick. The old, “if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it” theory. Well, when it comes to caring for animals, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, because our pets age at a much faster rate than we do, regular checkups and preventative care are vital to helping your pet enjoy a long, healthy life. Routine wellness visits – at least once a year – provide us with the opportunity to both manage your pet’s present health, and to identify and address potential health concerns before they have a chance to develop into something more serious. Disease prevention and early detection can add years to your cherished companion’s life.

Carmel Mountain Ranch Veterinary Hospital offers comprehensive wellness care to help extend and improve the quality of your pet’s life. This care is designed to both meet your companion’s current needs, and to adapt to their changing health care needs as they occur over time. For instance, while our wellness care for your kitten or puppy might focus on vaccinations and proper nutrition, the services we provide to your adult animal may involve diagnostic testing and weight control. Likewise, your senior pet will need more in-depth health screening and treatments to make their golden years more comfortable. We’ll adapt our wellness services to provide your pet with the precise care he or she needs at any given moment.

Wellness visits at Carmel Mountain Ranch are thorough and include a comprehensive physical exam of your pet’s external and internal body function. We’ll check your companion’s ears, eyes, nose, mouth and skin, and listen to their heart and lungs to make sure everything sounds normal. We may suggest certain diagnostic tests as a way to further analyze your pet’s overall wellbeing so we can develop a more detailed health profile. We can then use that profile to measure any changes as they occur, and address them in a timely manner. Our doctors will also discuss important things such as your pet’s nutrition and weight, parasite prevention, behavior and more.

Another important part of wellness care is vaccinations. Vaccines are medications that can protect companion animals from a broad range of serious, sometimes life threatening medical conditions. Yet, not every vaccination available is necessarily right for every pet. We’ll work closely with you to determine your pet’s specific needs and risk factors so that we can create a custom vaccination plan designed to keep your companion safe while also reducing the risk of over-medication.

We’ll also use the time allotted during wellness visits to get to know you and your pet better. Our doctors and care team will take the time to listen to you, discuss your concerns and answer any questions you may have about your pet. We’ll also ask you questions about your pet’s lifestyle at home, so we can further develop a customized health care plan that will be tailored specifically to your pet. The more personalized the care, the better the outcome for your pet over time.

Don’t wait until your pet is sick to bring them to us – give them the gift of a lifetime of good health by making a commitment to wellness care.
