Cierra Howard, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Howard has had a fulfilling journey in veterinary medicine! She has a passion for animals, and her path reflects a love for wildlife and a desire to improve the lives of pets. Childhood family hikes encourage curiosity in California wildlife and educational shows enticed a childhood dream of becoming the next "crocodile hunter". Because of this, she began studying biology and eventually went into ecological research. After several years she realized research was not for her; but a desire for an animal-centric career remained. She found her true calling as a veterinarian, and feels fulfilled helping animals in a hands-on way.

Dr. Howard attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa and obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. In 2021, she graduated from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona and was awarded a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree. Following these accomplishments, she moved to San Diego where she chose to expand her expertise with a one-year rotating internship at VCA Emergency Hospital and Referral Center, before moving into general practice. Dr. Howard has a desire to continue nurturing pets and is happy to be able to offer her professionalism and services here at Carmel Mountain Veterinary Hospital.

Her love for animals extends beyond just her work at Carmel Mountain Veterinary Hospital—she clearly has a soft spot for her three cats, Jasper, Safari, and Ollie, who all have heartwarming stories of rescue. She found Jasper and Safari behind a rusty barrel in a parking lot when they were kittens and are now both 8 years old. Ollie was found in the back of a car at 7 days old. Dr. Howard bottle fed and raised her. She is now a year old and can be a little menace!

On Dr. Howards days off, her hobbies outside of work include enjoying the beach, gardening. staying fit, and practicing Hula dancing.

Dr. Howard is a compassionate and dedicated professional, and her diverse interests and experiences make her a well-rounded and empathetic caregiver for both pets and their owners.
