Megan Dufva

Dr. Dufva grew up just west of Carmel Mountain in Rancho Penasquitos where she started to develop a love for animals in elementary school. That is when she got her first dog Barkley, a golden retriever mix, who ended up living 15 long years. He is what inspired her to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian. From there she went to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where she majored in Animal Science. In undergraduate she was exposed to many different animals including pigs, sheep, goats, cows, and horses, which although very interesting to learn about, further cemented Dr. Dufva's career path in small animal medicine. It was also at Cal Poly where Dr. Dufva met her husband, Luke, through the Mustang Band. After undergraduate, Dr. Dufva attended UC Davis and graduated in 2023 with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. During that time, they added Peaches (a golden retriever/great pyrenees mix) to their family, who has provided constant joy and entertainment. 

Following graduation, Dr. Dufva moved to San Diego to be closer to family, where she worked at a small animal practice for two years before coming to Carmel Mountain Veterinary Hospital. She is excited to provide compassionate care to pets and develop lasting relationships with owners. 

Outside of work, Dr. Dufva enjoys spending quality time with family, playing board games, going out in nature, and playing with her dog Peaches. She also enjoys traveling with her husband, ranging from frequent trips to Lake Tahoe to seeing the Christmas markets in Germany. 

Dr. Dufva has a passion for helping animals and a strong tie to the community. She looks forward to helping you and your four legged family member!
